I remember when I played Pokémon Gold for the first time as a kid and found out that some of my favorite Pokémon from Gen 1 were able to evolve. It was awesome. Now, with Pokémon GO, we’re going to be able to re-live my childhood all over again!
So join me as I list off all of the Pokémon that are currently unable to evolve, but will be able to evolve once the Gen 2 update is released for Pokémon GO. Better start saving your candies now for some of these!
Crobat
Finally, a use for all of those annoying Zubats! Then again, since it seems like Pokémon with high speed stats are getting the shaft in Pokémon GO, Crobat might not actually be very useful at all. Being a third (and final) stage evolution, we’re guessing it will require 100 candies to make the jump from Golbat to Crobat.
Bellossom
Bellossom is an alternate third (and final) stage evolution for Gloom, which itself is an evolution of Oddish. In the original games you needed to give Gloom a Sun Stone in order for it to evolve into a Bellossom, so we’re not sure how it this will go down in Pokémon GO (It could be semi-random like Eevee?) Again, third stage evolution -> probably 100 candies.
Politoed
Just like Bellossom, Politoed is an alternate third (and final) stage evolution, this time of Poliwhirl (and Poliwag). In the original games, in order to obtain a Politoed you needed to trade a Poliwhirl to another player while it was holding a King’s Rock. In Pokémon GO, however, we’re not really sure, other than the fact that it will probably require 100 candies.
Slowking
Just like Politoed, Slowking was only obtainable by trading a certain Pokémon while it was holding a King’s Rock. In this case, that “certain Pokémon” is, you guessed it, Slowpoke. Since he’s technically a second (and final) stage evolution, he will probably require 50 candies to evolve.
Steelix
Let’s just take a second to admire how bad-ass Steelix is. Seriously. Steelix is the second (and final) stage evolution of Onix, and is evolved by trading an Onix that’s holding a Metal Coat. Personally, I think Steelix will require 100 candies to evolve, but it could be 50 (or even 200, who knows!)
Hitmontop
This is where things might start to get confusing for players who aren’t familiar with Gen 2. Hitmontop is the second (and final) stage evolution of a Pokémon named Tyrogue, and while Tyrogue isn’t actually a Gen 1 Pokémon, Hitmontop is on this list because Tyrogue’s other two evolutions are Gen 1 Pokémon: Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan.
I believe that when Tyrogue (and Hitmontop) are added to the game, Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan candies will turn into “Tyrogue” candies, and will be used to evolve Tyrogue into Hitmontop.
Therefore, hoarding Hitmonchan and Hitmonlee candies now might allow you to evolve a Tyrogue into a Hitmontop as soon as you encounter one after Gen 2 is released. Does that make sense? Good!
Blissey
Blissey is the second (and final) stage evolution of Chansey, and let me tell you, she is one hell of a tank. Seriously, this girl can take a beating. The route to obtaining a Blissey in the original games was to increase your Chansey’s happiness to a certain point, level it up, and it would evolve. In Pokémon GO, however, I’d be guessing that it will just take 100 or so candies.
Kingdra
Kingdra is the third (and final) stage evolution of the Horsea/Seadra family, and in the original games, is only obtainable by trading a Seadra holding a Dragon Scale. Since it’s a third (and final) stage evolution, it will probably require 100 candies to evolve.
Scizor
Scizor is the second (and final) stage evolution of Scyther. Fun fact: Scizor is arguably weaker than Scyther, since upon evolving it loses over 40 points in its base Speed stat while only gaining 20 in Attack and Defense. In the original games, in order to obtain a Scizor one must trade a Scyther that is holding a Metal Coat. In Pokémon GO, you’ll probably just need 50 candies.
Espeon
Espeon is a second (and final) stage evolution of Eevee, making it an Eeveelution. To obtain an Espeon in the original games, you needed to level up your Eevee (with high friendship) during the day (or with a Sun Shard in your inventory). In Pokémon GO, it’ll probably be 25 candies.
Umbreon
Like Espeon, Umbreon is another second (and final) stage evolution for Eevee. To obtain an Umbreon in the original games, a high friendship Eevee needs to level up either at night or with a Moon Shard in the players inventory. Again, since this is Pokémon GO, 25 candies will probably do the trick.
Porygon2
Porygon2 is the second stage evolution of Porygon, and is one weird looking dude. To evolve your Porygon in the original games, you needed to trade one that was holding an item called “Up-Grade”. Since Porygon2 is a second stage evolution, it will probably take 50 candies in Pokémon GO.
